Jamie O’Hara admits he will be “fuming” if Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou opts to play Fraser Forster in the Europa League knockout stages.
Spurs were beaten 3-2 by Galatasaray in Istanbul on Thursday (8 November) with Will Lankshear seeing red on the hour after earlier scoring his first senior goal.
Former Spurs midfielder O’Hara, speaking live on talkSPORT (8 November), was not overly dispirited but cited the decision to start back-up goalkeeper Forster as one that would frustrate him if it were to be repeated later in the competition.
“We’ve actually done alright in the Europa League so far, we’re in the top eight and I look at it and go ‘right look that’s a tough game, I want to see a better performance but I’m not going to cry over it’ you know?” O’Hara said.
“If it’s the knockout stages, you know, I’m going to be fuming. If he plays Fraser Forster in a knockout stage game in the Europa League then I’ll be fuming but it’s the league table, we’re going to get through, we’ve got some home games coming up, Galatasaray’s a tough game.”
Ange Postecoglou knows what he’s doing, trust the Tottenham process
The frustrating thing for Tottenham supporters at times is how consistently inconsistent the team has been under the Australian boss.
There have been some real highs during his tenure mixed with some real lows but the quality of football witness since his arrival has been a joy at times.
Mixing the team up is absolutely the right thing to do at this stage of the European campaign. Ultimately, Spurs remain in a position of strength having won their first three games in the new format and with such a congested fixture list at this time of year it makes sense to switch things up.
The further Tottenham go in the competition, and hopefully they can go all the way to the final, then you would expect Postecoglou will name stronger line-ups.
But for now it’s just a case of being patient and trusting the process, he knows what he’s doing.
In other Tottenham news, Spurs are setting off sirens for a Serie A transfer this January.
