Ange Postecoglou might already be regretting his decision to allow Manor Solomon to leave Tottenham on loan.

It has been a difficult opening few weeks of the 2024/25 campaign for Postecoglou’s side.

The Australian would have been hoping to make a more convincing start to his second full season in charge of Tottenham, with the North London outfit picking up just four points after three matches.

They were beaten 2-1 by Newcastle United at St James’ Park on Sunday (1 September), despite dominating much of the match.

A big reason for the defeat was Spurs’ failure to take chances. This was also an issue during the club’s 1-1 draw with Leicester City at the King Power Stadium on Monday 19 August.

That lack of precision in the final third will be frustrating Postecoglou and Tottenham supporters.

And those frustrations won’t have been eased after seeing the start on-loan forward Solomon made with his temporary club Leeds United at Elland Road.

Manor Solomon sends Ange Postecoglou a message at Tottenham

Solomon hardly featured during his debut season with Tottenham, spending much of the campaign on the sidelines nursing a knee injury.

He only managed six outings for Tottenham and was hardly utilised during pre-season ahead of the 2024/25 camping getting underway.

Therefore, it might have come as a surprise to some fans that Postecoglou allowed the 25-year-old to leave the club on a season-long loan, without giving him much of an opportunity to prove himself.

And it looks as though that decision was perhaps the incorrect one, with Solomon making a positive start to life at Elland Road as the Whites recorded a 2-0 win over Hull City on Saturday (31 August).

Solomon started the match and provided the assist as Mateo Joseph opened the scoring for the hosts in the 63rd minute. In addition, Solomon completed 84 per cent of his passes, with two of those key, and created that one big chance which was converted by Joseph (Sofascore).

Furthermore, he completed two successful dribbles and provided one accurate cross into the box, while he also chipped in defensively, winning five ground duels and making two tackles.

And after the performance of Wilson Odobert against the Magpies, Postecoglou will perhaps regret not keeping hold of Solomon in his first-team squad.

Odobert struggled at St James’ Park, with the 19-year-old completing zero per cent of his crosses into the box and missing one big chance.

In other Tottenham news, one 17-year-old could soon be handed his first-team debut after what he did recently.
