Ange Postecoglou will be without his top two left-backs when Tottenham take on Ferencváros at the Groupama Arena on Thursday (3 October).

Spurs will be looking to make it five wins on the bounce when they take on Ferencváros in the UEFA Europa League.

Following their 3-0 win over Manchester United at Old Trafford (29 September), confidence will be high among the squad.

However, they have been dealt several key injury blows ahead of the European clash in Hungary, which could make things tricky.

Postecoglou confirmed via Spurs’ official website on Wednesday (2 October) that both Son Heung-min and Destiny Udogie have remained in London and are unavailable for the clash with Ferencváros due to injury.

Therefore, the Australian’s decision not to include Djed Spence in the Europa League squad has once again come back to haunt him.

Tottenham without Djed Spence or Destiny Udogie v Ferencváros

Udogie picked up his injury in the win against United, making way at half-time.

Up until that point, the 21-year-old had played reasonably well. As per Sofascore, the Italian made two interceptions and one tackle, while winning four of his seven ground duels and 100 per cent of his aerial duels.

In addition, he completed 90 per cent of his passes and won three fouls for his side.

When he was forced to go off against Erik ten Hag’s side, it was Spence who replaced him.

While the 24-year-old didn’t play as well as Udogie, he still managed to make two interceptions, one tackle and one clearance, helping Spurs maintain their clean sheet.

He also provided one accurate cross into the box and completed 83 per cent of his passes. However, what was most telling, was the fact it was Spence who replaced Udogie, not Ben Davies.

That demonstrates that Postecoglou sees the Englishman as the backup to Udogie.

As a result, the decision not to include Spence in the Europa League squad once again baffles, and looks particularly damaging now that Udogie is unavailable.

Postecoglou will have to adapt, and with Radu Drăgușin also suspended after being sent off in the 3-0 Europa League win over Qarabağ FK at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium (26 September), it looks as if the Australian is going to have some tough decisions to make in defence.

In other Tottenham news, Postecoglou should take a closer look at a “powerful” Under-21 forward after what he did recently.
