View: Ange has surely made Jan call on 71% Tottenham frustration after what he did v Southampton

Timy Werner may return to RB Leipzig in January after another uneventful showing for Tottenham in their 5-0 hammering of Southampton.

Werner was named on the bench for Spurs for their encounter with Southampton on 15 December but was introduced in the 77th minute replacing James Maddison, who played a key role in the win.

His inability to contribute after coming on leaves questions over any future contributions for the club with a January return to Leipzig tipped.

Despite playing the final 15 minutes against a poor Southampton side, Werner failed to offer anything in a Spurs performance that was impressive and rumours that it could have ended up getting Russell Martin sacked proved true as Southampton confirmed his departure not long after the final whistle.

According to FotMob, the German had just 10 touches in the encounter, seven of which were simple passes.

Impressively, he still managed to misplace two of those passes resulting in a 71 per cent accuracy.

An argument can be made for him being slightly unlucky to have not registered an assist after creating his only chance of the game with an xA (expected assists) of 0.21 but that was his only show of threat once again having not made a touch in the opposition penalty area.

Werner failed to register a single shot after coming on while also losing out in the only defensive duel he was involved in as well as being dribbled past on one occasion far too easily.

Questions will emerge over the German’s ability to contribute to the season going forward and a January return to Leipzig may be something the club have to consider.

But, on this evidence, you have to say that surely Ange Postecoglou has already made his mind up on what he wants to happen.
