Ange Postecoglou cannot start Brennan Johnson when Tottenham travel to St James’ Park to take on Newcastle United on Sunday (1 September).
Spurs picked up their first three points of the season with a 4-0 victory over Everton at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday (24 August).
Goals from Yves Bissouma, Son Heung-min and Cristian Romero ensured that the North London outfit were victorious in their first home match of the brand-new season.
It was a comfortable afternoon for Postecoglou and his players, with a rather underwhelming Everton outfit offering very little threat.
However, things won’t be as straightforward when Tottenham travel to Newcastle, and Postecoglou cannot afford to have any passengers in his team that day.
Therefore, Johnson must be dropped after yet another underwhelming display from the Welshman.
Ange Postecoglou to drop Tottenham forward Brennan Johnson against Newcastle United?
As predicted by John Wenham while in conversation exclusively with Tottenham News (23 August), Wilson Odobert was handed his Spurs debut against the Toffees.
That meant Johnson started on the left-hand side, while Son played through the middle.
Dominic Solanke could perhaps return for the trip to St James’ Park (via The Guardian, 23 August), and if he does, of the three attackers who started against Everton, Johnson needs to be the one to make way for the striker.
As per Sofascore, Johnson failed with his one dribble attempt and also missed one big chance against Everton. In addition, he was only able to complete 79 per cent of his passes.
Furthermore, he completed zero per cent of his crosses into the box and gave possession away 10 times, while winning just two of his five ground duels and 50 per cent of his aerial duels.
Finally, he committed two fouls on what was a rather disappointing afternoon for the 23-year-old despite his side winning.
As a result, if Postecoglou wants the best chance of claiming maximum points from the trip to Tyneside, he would be wise to start without Johnson.
In other Tottenham news, delight has emerged with a medical underway for one player to secure a loan exit from the club.
