View: Ange will be concerned about 50% Tottenham star after what happened on Sunday


Ange Postecoglou will be concerned about the form of Tottenham forward Brennan Johnson.

Johnson had a mixed first season in North London.

He was signed by Spurs from Nottingham Forest last summer as part of a £47.5million deal (via Sky Sports News, 2 September).

The 22-year-old featured frequently under Postecoglou in his first season with the club, playing 32 times in the Premier League and starting 23 matches.

He scored five goals and provided ten assists, which isn’t a bad return for a young player adapting to new surroundings.

However, considering the amount of money invested into the forward, Postecoglou will be hoping to see some improvements next season.

Unfortunately, Johnson’s post-season form with the Wales national team doesn’t show signs of a player ready to improve next season.

Johnson’s form with Wales will be cause for concern for Postecoglou and Tottenham.

The Dragons missed out on qualification for the 2024 UEFA European Championship in Germany but recently took part in two friendlies.

The first of those friendlies came against Gibraltar (6 June), who are ranked 203rd in the world.

What should have been a routine victory for Wales ended in a 0-0 draw, with Johnson coming off the bench for the final half an hour.

And despite the difference in quality between the two teams, the Spurs forward was unable to make a meaningful impact.

As per Sofascore, he was successful with just 50 per cent of his dribbles, missed one big chance, and only managed to complete 80 per cent of his passes.

In addition, just one of his three crosses into the box was successful while he also gave the ball away six times.

Despite such an underwhelming cameo display, Johnson was handed a start in the 4-0 defeat to Slovakia on Sunday (9 June).

But during the hour he spent on the pitch, the forward was once again ineffective.

Although he did complete 91 per cent of his passes on this occasion, he only managed 19 touches, lost his one duel, mustered up just one shot off target and gave away a foul.

After two very underwhelming displays, Postecoglou will be hoping to see much more from his big-money signing next season.
