It’s safe to say Jarrad Branthwaite hasn’t quite had the start to the season that most Everton fans expected.

Most believed the final season at Goodison Park would be the campaign where the England international staked his claim as one of the Premier League’s best defenders after an impressive breakthrough year.

But injuries have blighted the defender so far and limited him to just one league start this term, however, it seems as though there is light at the end of the tunnel after he came off of the bench in the draw with Fulham last time out.

While Toffees fans will want to see the 22-year-old do well at Goodison Park, they will also be aware that another positive season in Everton could tempt more clubs into making a move for his services.

Manchester United were keen to try and sign the England international this summer, with reports suggesting the Red Devils had at least two offers rejected by the Blues [TEAMtalk, 14 October].

Although there is an expectation that United could return with a new offer for Branthwaite either in January or at the end of the season, Everton’s hopes of keeping him on Merseyside may have just been boosted.

Will Jarrad Branthwaite exit Everton amid Manchester United interest?

Manchester United head coach Ruud van Nistelrooy is reportedly expected to exit Old Trafford if Ruben Amorim is named as Erik ten Hag’s successor after the Dutchman was sacked by the Red Devils [i News, 30 October].

Although Van Nistelrooy wasn’t the driving force behind United’s move for Branthwaite, he is a big fan of the Toffees star having seen a £15million offer for the defender rejected by Sean Dyche’s side during his time in charge of PSV [Daily Mail, 31 January 2023].

With a new manager with his own plans set to take charge at Old Trafford and Van Nistelrooy expected to depart, United’s interest in Branthwaite could have all but ended already.

While there is always a chance Amorim could launch his own bid for the 22-year-old when January rolls around, the latest developments at Manchester United could well play into Everton’s hands.
