Philippe Clement could make two changes as Rangers prepare to face Celtic in the Old Firm derby on Sunday (1 September).

The Gers come into the high-emotion clash at Celtic Park off the back of an impressive 6-0 win over Ross County, though the Belgian could still drop both Tom Lawrence and Leon Balogun.

With Dujon Sterling performing well in midfield last time out, he is likely to remain there, with Mohamed Diomande taking Lawrence’s spot, while Robin Propper takes Balogun’s space in defence.

The 36-year-old centre-back started against Ross County but was substituted at half-time due to an injury, with no knowledge of how serious it could be ahead of the Old Firm derby.

Philippe Clement must prove himself as Rangers face Celtic

The changes are unlikely to affect Jack Butland’s spot in between the sticks, with Jefte, John Souttar and Tavernier joined by Propper in the back line, having kept clean sheets in two consecutive league matches.

Connor Barron and Sterling must start at the base of midfield against the Hoops, with the front four of Rabbi Matondo, Diomande, Vaclav Cerny and Cyriel Dessers, who have been firing on all cylinders, to make up the attacking lineup.

Given the seriousness of the Gers’ next fixture, Clement will not want to make too many changes and disrupt the connections currently forming amongst his squad members.

The Light Blues have only claimed one victory in the last 12 meetings against their Old Firm rivals, and with the manager already under pressure at the helm, he cannot afford another loss to Brendan Rodgers.

Clement’s job is well and truly likely to be on the line if the Gers cannot claim at least a point when the bitter rivals meet at Celtic Park on Sunday 1 September.
