Everton have found themselves in a decent run of form over their last few Premier League games.
The Toffees have etched out draws against the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and even Manchester City over the last couple of weeks, which shows how far they’ve come since the start of the term.
While draws certainly won’t win the Merseyside outfit any titles, it’ll no doubt bolster their chances of retaining their Premier League status, something that is imperative now the Friedkin Group has completed its takeover and the move to Bramley-Moore Dock on the horizon.
In their next top-flight clash on 29 December, Dyche’s men are set to take on Nottingham Forest at Goodison Park and, although Nuno Espirito Santo has impressively led his team to third in the table, Everton have received something of a boost in their chances of coming away with some points.
That boost being that Ryan Yates won’t be eligible to play due to suspension. The defensive midfielder received a yellow card in Forest’s victory over Tottenham on 26 December, which means that he’s received enough to earn a one-game suspension.
This is good news for Dyche and his men as a whole but particularly for Abdoulaye Doucoure who won’t have to deal with Yates’ presence on Sunday.
Why Ryan Yates’ absence is good for Everton and Abdoulaye Doucoure
Since Dwight McNeil has been ruled out of action due to injury, Doucoure has taken up the role of attacking midfielder.
While he’s often been used a bit further back this term, his power and ability can be a valuable asset further up the pitch.
While the former Mali international hasn’t yet notched a goal or assist for the Merseyside outfit, it’s evident with the way he plays how much of an impact he could have on the result against Forest.
Without Yates between him and the goal, Doucoure could well find a way to wriggle around Forest’s midfield and potentially create a chance or two for Everton.
Only time will tell whether the Toffees will make the most of Yates’ absence on Sunday but in their current purple patch of form, it feels like anything could be possible.
In other Everton news, Sean Dyche has been backed for a new role under TFG.
