Sean Dyche appears likely to be awarded the chance to see out the remainder of the season at Everton.
The Blues boss has been under immense pressure this season, with his side lingering only three points above the relegation zone, but he has certainly earned his flowers after impressive results against the Premier League’s top six.
However, despite his future remaining far from certain at Goodison Park, he has received a timely boost following the 2-0 loss against Nottingham Forest on Sunday (29 December).
According to Fabrizio Romano (30 December), reported Everton managerial target Sergio Conceicao will be unveiled as the new head coach of AC Milan after rejecting proposals across Europe for a move to the Serie A.
Now, with one less managerial target off the market to succeed Dyche, The Friedkin Group may be swayed to stick with the boss until the end of the campaign.
Sergio Conceicao news is a good sign for Sean Dyche at Everton
TalkSPORT reported on 5 November that Conceicao placed high on the shortlist to potentially replace Dyche, and he was viewed as a progressive appointment in line with Dan Friedkin’s vision of the club.
While the three-time Primeira Liga winner with Porto would have undoubtedly whet the appetite of a disgruntled Everton fanbase, AC Milan have beaten them to the punch.
For Dyche, this can only be a positive sign for his future on Merseyside – TFG are no fools, and recent results against Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City bode well for the second half of the season, albeit the Forest loss was a big step backwards.
There are plenty of other available options, such as former Brighton and Chelsea boss Graham Potter, and a sensational return to Goodison Park for David Moyes surely cannot be entirely ruled out, but the time to pursue a new leader for the Blues has passed.
Everton are still very much in a relegation battle as things stand, and shaking up the backroom staff is far too big a risk for TFG to take with so much football left to be played.
Dyche may not be the man to lead the Blues into the new era at Bramley-Moore Dock next year, but he is still the right man to retain their Premier League status this season.
In other Everton news, the Toffees are eyeing a move for a Newcastle United star with a January exit likely.
