Everton are set to enjoy a revitalised Jordan Pickford following his admission on how to remain England’s number one under Thomas Tuchel.
Pickford has vowed [Liverpool Echo, 19 November] to “work his [expletive] off” in a Toffees shirt to ensure the best possible future for his club and his international career.
Despite a few hiccups, the 30-year-old has been nothing short of remarkable for the majority of his Goodison career, which when they move to Bramley-Moore Dock next summer will have lasted eight years.
A naturally buoyant and bubbly character, Pickford’s attitude will come as a breath of fresh air of which Everton fans will argue they have seldom enjoyed too often in recent times.
Everton to benefit from Jordan Pickford vow
Many have wondered where Everton would be without Pickford, who is one of the senior figures in an experienced dressing room under Sean Dyche.
Should he play the next nine consecutive games for the Toffees, he will reach the landmark of 300 appearances since his arrival in 2017 when they travel to AFC Bournemouth on 4 January.
Pickford is exactly the type of individual to humbly play it down, but he will be beaming with pride inside – likewise when he kept a clean sheet on his record-levelling 73rd England cap on Sunday [17 November] to match Gordon Banks.
He has even been backed in some quarters to work towards the legendary status worthy of a statue, though Ian Darke who last made that bold call admits he still has some way to go.
For a goalkeeper who in truth has endured very little genuine competition for his first-team spot at Everton, Pickford deserves credit for how he continues to remain so motivated, a huge contributory factor to his longevity on Merseyside.
In other Everton news, a teenage sensation playing in Brazil could wind up in Sean Dyche’s squad.
