Everton may still be in the race to sign Newcastle United winger Yankuba Minteh after an initial attempt to sign the player fell through.

According to FootballTransfers [25 June], the Toffees refused to reach the Magpies’ asking price for the 19-year-old, with the player said to be available for £30million this summer [Daily Mail].

It is understood that Newcastle had agreed a £40million deal with Lyon instead. However, talks have stalled, with the sources close to the situation suggesting the player is not keen on a switch to Ligue 1 [Chronicle Live].

This could open the door for Sean Dyche’s side to rejoin the transfer race for Minteh, who spent last season on loan with Feyenoord, where he notched 11 goals and five assists in all competitions.

The wing position at Goodison Park will still be an area of concern ahead of the 2024/25 campaign, even with Jack Harrison rejoining on loan from Leeds United, and Minteh could be the perfect addition this summer.

Of course, if the Toffees are to continue their interest in the 19-year-old winger this summer, there will need to be a little bit of a budge in terms of the value differences.

The deal is made much harder by Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s move to St James’ Park falling through, though it has been suggested that his transfer could be revived later in the window [Luke Edwards].

Newcastle being able to secure the 27-year-old forward may give Everton a little bit of leeway for Minteh’s price tag. They will still need to splash the cash, though.

Everton target Yankuba Minteh excelled on loan at Feyenoord last season.

With the player expressing his thoughts on a move away from the Premier League, the Merseyside club have been gifted some more time to come up with a transfer plan.

They cannot afford to wait around forever, though, with multiple clubs vying for the winger’s signature this summer.

In other Everton news, two Premier League clubs have made a move for Calvert-Lewin after Newcastle’s move collapsed.
