Daniel Levy could see his time limited at Tottenham Hotspur after due diligence was carried out for a full takeover from MSP Sports Capital, according to TBR Football.
The website reported [5 September] that the American consortium had previously conducted full due diligence with a view to a possible full takeover.
Levy has had Tottenham up for sale – either partially or in full – from ENIC for a sustained period, and values the club at around £3.75bn.
A number of American private equity firms had shown an interest, but so far nothing has progressed for Spurs to change hands in ownership for the first time in 23 years.
Tottenham Hotspur takeover of interest to MSP
Whilst the TBR article acknowledges MSP Sports Capital have not yet gone back in to explore a deal to take over Spurs, a revival of talks cannot be ruled out.
Levy has been officially at the helm since 2001 and overseen significant revenue pass in both directions through the club – particularly following the move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in 2019.
MSP, headquartered in New York, were one of several parties looking into a takeover of Everton in the past year – a saga which in itself has continued and taken some outrageous turns whilst Farhad Moshiri remains in control at Goodison Park.
This demonstrates an eagerness on their part to get involved in Premier League club football investment, which is why a callback to Spurs certainly cannot be chalked off.
A full takeover is made difficult by Levy’s valuation of Tottenham, whilst a partial stake would not guarantee any say in the day-to-day running of the club.
For the fans in North London who want a whole refresh of operations after over two decades – with an entire generation who have only lived to see a Levy-owned Spurs – it is a sticky situation where something would have to give.
