Tottenham owner Daniel Levy is one of the go-to businessmen when it comes to making a profit with a Premier League club.

While the 62-year-old is not the most favoured figure at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with several of his recent decisions not going down well with the fans, he cannot be criticised for his cost-effective methods.

Financial expert Kieran Maguire has gone as far as to rave about the savvy business owner, with Spurs striking a deal with the Haringey London Borough Council to increase their non-football events from 16 to 30 per year [Official website].

Speaking via The Price of Football podcast on Thursday (8 August), Maguire said: “They were limited to 16 major non-football events at the stadium in the calendar year. They put in to increase that number to 30 and that has been approved by Haringey Council. I’m not sure all the neighbours will be overjoyed about this.

“But I can assure you that plenty will. When I’ve been to Spurs’ stadium, quite a few neighbours are very enterprising and rent out their front garden to traders, who can then sell food, merchandise, etc. It does cut both ways.

“This is further vindication of the vision of Daniel Levy to create a stadium which was multi-use, multi-function, multi-sport because one of the criticisms that we have levelled at the football industry is that it’s open 25 days a year but the costs run over 365 days a year.

“Making it more flexible in terms of the ability to generate revenue does make more sense and it’s good news for local traders. But the downside is that if you’re trying to get children to sleep at night, with 60,000 people outside for 25-30 days of football and 30 days of non-football, that’s effectively more than once a week now. It looks as though the council has taken a broader view.

“As Spurs commercial point of view, since leaving White Hart Lane, commercial income has tripled from £70million to £220million, and this is only going to increase that further and further. So it’s great news financially.”

Daniel Levy praised as Tottenham prepare for further income boost

Already having one of the best football stadiums in Europe, Levy is taking full advantage of the ground outside of the footballing calendar. And why wouldn’t he?

The stadium is often left vacant when Ange Postecoglou’s side are not playing at home, which leaves the owner with huge potential to earn more income, which should benefit the club in the long run.

Of course, this news will do little to please the football fans at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, but there are no doubts over Levy’s ability as a businessman as he thinks of new and intriguing ideas for new sources of income.

He has already tripled commercial income from £70million to £220million, and with the extra boost to come from more non-football events, it is no wonder why Maguire is in absolute awe.
