Philippe Clement and Rangers have already undergone a period of change in terms of their players this summer.
After once again failing to beat arch-rivals Celtic to the Scottish Premiership, it’s evident that change was needed at the Gers.
And change is what fans have gotten, stalwarts such as Borna Barisic and John Lundstram have both exited whilst youngsters such as Jefte and Connor Barron have been brought in as replacements.
It’s evident that the Belgian manager has had one eye towards the future when looking at the latest additions to the Glasgow-based outfit’s squad.
And despite this being good practice and ensuring the future of the team, a mixture of experience is also needed in order to guide those with high potential to become the best they can be.
Which is why when the Gers’ move for Sevilla playmaker Joan Jordan was reported [Fabrizio Romano, 13 July], things started to make a lot of sense.
Rangers given boost in Joan Jordan pursuit
The LaLiga ace is 30 years old and would have been an ideal candidate to help nurture players such as Barron and Clinton Nsiala.
Although the Gers’ initial loan bid was rejected, Jordan was left out of Quique Sanchez Flores’ squad for their pre-season friendly against Orlando Pirates on 15 July, which suggests an exit is now closer than ever before.
Despite having a squad of 24 players, Jordan was omitted for Sevilla’s 2-0 loss to the South African side.
With Victor Orta having said that the 30-year-old has no future at Sevilla, it feels as if it’s only going to be a matter of time before a deal can be struck.
Jordan would be an ideal addition to Clement’s squad and would no doubt help fulfil the void left by Lundstram upon his departure this summer.
Indeed, only time will tell whether or not a move is made but, in reality, it feels like a matter of when not if.
