Everton have had an injury-riddled season in the 2024/25 Premier League campaign already.

Jarrad Branthwaite has been sidelined for the vast majority of the campaign, with Seamus Coleman also struggling with the defence hit hard.

This has left Sean Dyche’s men low in depth at times and things don’t seem to be getting any better for the Merseyside outfit.

In his pre-match press conference on 17 October for the trip to Ipswich on Saturday (19 October), Dyche confirmed that James Garner will be absent from the clash due to a back injury.

While Ashley Young can slot in at right-back if needed, it feels like it could be an ideal time to give Roman Dixon another opportunity in the first-team fold.

Other senior options will no doubt be higher up on Dyche’s list to play at right-back than Dixon, but, the upcoming game against Kieran McKenna’s men feels like an ideal time for Dyche to entrust him.

He’s already used the youngster this term in the 4-0 defeat at Tottenham when Young was suspended and Coleman was injured.

When called upon, he put in a solid shift and managed to hold his own.

Indeed, Nathan Patterson or Seamus Coleman would be a safer bet but there are still plenty of games left in the season for them to be used by Dyche when back to full fitness.

For Dixon, however, another golden opportunity like this may not present itself any time soon and the defender could find himself overlooked for future fixtures.

Granted, it’s not all that likely for Dyche to have pictured the 19-year-old in his first-team plans at the start of the season but thanks to consistent injury issues, Dixon’s inclusion may have been forced.

It will be interesting to see what happens in this one, with another crucial three points on the line.
