Ange Postecoglou may need to start keeping an eye on youth prospect Herbie James after Tottenham Under-18s faced Crystal Palace on Saturday (17 August).

The manager has not been afraid of bringing the younger generation through to the first team, having handed Mikey Moore his Premier League debut against Manchester City last season.

Archie Gray also looks to be a key player for Spurs this season, joining from Leeds United in a £30million deal, and Postecoglou may already have a new winger to bring through to the first team.

Herbie James is an exciting talent currently plying his trade in Spurs’ U18s squad and has quickly kicked off the 2024/25 campaign with a stinging strike against Crystal Palace on Saturday 17 August.

During a hectic first half against the Eagles, the 17-year-old right-winger completed the turnaround after Spurs conceded an early penalty, building on a Marcus Hill own goal on the 16-minute mark.

While Jessey Derry scored an equaliser before half-time, Postecoglou will have already seen enough from James to give him a chance in the senior squad as Spurs prepare for the 2024/25 campaign.

Herbie James to earn Tottenham debut?

The 17-year-old has certainly shown enough to prove he is ready for a first-team opportunity, whether that be earning his debut or just training with the senior squad.

Spurs clearly have a lot of faith in the winger after handing the player his first professional contract at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in January [Official website].

James will be hoping the next step is earning his first-team debut, and after his goal against Crystal Palace on Saturday, it may not be too far away, which will be exciting for the passionate fan base.

Spurs fans are always waiting for new, young players to make their breakthrough, and that need has certainly been fulfilled by Moore’s involvement in Postecoglou’s squad, but James could be a very welcomed addition soon.

In other Tottenham news, Spurs are set to spell Richarlison before August 30 after a recent transfer announcement.
