Wenham backs Tottenham to agree pre-contract with £15m-rated Euro midfielder in January

John Wenham believes Tottenham could agree a pre-contract with Lille ace Angel Gomes in January.

The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose believes the 24-year-old would instantly be worth £15million as soon as he joined the club.

As reported by Give Me Sport (5 November), Daniel Levy will front negotiations as Spurs look to sign Gomes. The midfielder is entering the final six months of his deal with Lille and is keen on a return to the Premier League.

Therefore, Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes something could be agreed as early as January.

“Gomes would count as homegrown, as he came through Manchester United’s academy,” Wenham said.

“He would be available on a free transfer next summer. Therefore, Tottenham could agree a pre-contract with him in January.

“By signing him for free and agreeing a five-year contract with him, he would be worth £15million right away, simply based on the value attached to that contract.”

Gomes has impressed since making the move from England to France. As a result of his bright form overseas, the midfielder was handed his debut for England this season.

Therefore, it is no surprise that clubs in the Premier League have taken notice, including Tottenham.

Ange Postecoglou already has several talented midfielders in his squad in North London.

However, if the Australian wants Gomes, and a deal can be agreed, then it makes a lot of sense, especially if it is a free transfer.
