John Wenham believes it is “going to kill” Tottenham to be without midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur.

The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose is relieved that the 27-year-old can at least continue to feature in the UEFA Europa League.

Bentancur was charged by the FA in September for suggesting South Korean team-mate Son Heung-min and his cousins “all look the same” during an interview broadcast in Uruguay last June (via the Standard, 12 September).

As reported by Paul O Keefe via X (13 November), Bentancur is set to be handed “a domestic ban of seven matches by the FA”. It has also been reported by the Daily Mail (13 November) that the Uruguay international will receive a seven-match ban, although this figure is not yet confirmed.

And Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham Newshas detailed how big of a loss this will be.

“Bentancur has been very good for us,” Wenham said.

“Therefore, it’s going to kill us that he’s out for seven matches.

“He has looked back to his best in recent weeks. Obviously, this ban doesn’t apply to European competition, which means he will still be able to play in the Europa League.

“That could be good as it will allow us to keep some rhythm in him.”

Tottenham star Rodrigo Bentancur to be handed seven-match ban?

When it rains, it pours in North London.

After their miserable 2-1 Premier League defeat to Ipswich Town at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday (10 November), which has left a question mark on Ange Postecoglou’s position, Spurs probably thought they would have a break from bad news over the international break.

However, that is not the case, with the news of Bentancur’s ban finally emerging.

Bentancur scored and was one of Spurs’ better players against Ipswich, which highlights just how much of a blow this is for Postecoglou.

However, he made a mistake, and it is only right that he suffers the consequences.

In other Tottenham news, Archie Gray’s stance on a January transfer exit has emerged.
