John Wenham has criticised Tottenham for their approach to transfers with the club looking increasingly likely to miss out on Eberechi Eze.
The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose feels that the 26-year-old would instantly improve Ange Postecoglou’s side.
It comes after The Times reported online (2 August) that although Tottenham like Eze, Crystal Palace want the bulk of his £60million release clause paid upfront, which has complicated a deal.
And Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – is growing tired of problems of this nature arising in North London.
“I am frustrated because I think Eze would be a guaranteed success,” Wenham said.
“There wouldn’t be any settling in period, he would hit the ground running and he would be an instant improvement on what we have got.
“It is just so frustrating that any transfer we go into is described as hard to do. There always seems to be difficulties whenever we’re after a player.
“Would we have even signed anybody of note during this window if Brentford hadn’t come in for Archie Gray and put us under pressure? It seems like we have been reactive rather than proactive.
“It is just so frustrating that there always seems to be these massive obstacles for Daniel Levy and the club. Why can’t we just go out there and get our business done?”
Tottenham to miss out on Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze?
In truth, it has been a largely disappointing transfer window for Spurs.
While they have moved on some unwanted players and signed some exciting young talents, such as Gray and Lucas Bergvall, that is about all they have done.
No big-name players have been brought in with the Premier League now just a matter of weeks away from getting underway once again.
It would be hard to argue that the Spurs squad has improved, and considering the amount of money the club continue to bring in, supporters will no doubt feel frustrated that the club’s transfer expenditure remains so low this summer.
