Wenham gushes over 'Talented' Tottenham youth after pre-season development

John Wenham has praised Jaden Williams after the striker got on the scoresheet for the Tottenham Under-21s during pre-season.

The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose is hopeful of seeing more of the 19-year-old this season.

Williams scored during Spurs Under-21s’ 2-0 win over St Albans (20 July) having played just 159 minutes of football last year.

And Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes the youngster has more to showcase.

“I was delighted for Williams to get on the scoresheet,” Wenham said.

“He had a tough decision to make last summer on whether or not to extend with Tottenham. I say tough because he is battling with a lot of talented young strikers at Spurs.

“He chose to extend, and he didn’t get much game time last season, but I was delighted to see that when he did start, he managed to score.

“Hopefully that boosts his confidence, and we see him feature regularly for the Under-21s this season because he is a talented player.”

It is fair to say that Ange Postecoglou does not have a shortage of strikers to bring through from Spurs’ academy.

With the form that Jamie Donley and Will Lankshear were in last season, it was always going to be difficult for Williams to make an impact.

However, with both of those players likely to be handed more first-team minutes during the upcoming season there could be a chance for Williams to claim a starting place for the Under-21s.

That could offer him the opportunity to shine just as Lankshear did last season, which could lead to supporters at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium soon having a new young striker to keep a close eye on.
