Wenham shares Nico Williams transfer verdict at Tottenham after Fabrizio Romano update

John Wenham does not believe Tottenham will be able to sign Athletic Bilbao forward Nico Williams.

The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose claims the 22-year-old is now out of reach after his impressive 2024 UEFA European Championship campaign with Spain.

It had been previously reported by The Telegraph (9 April) that Tottenham were one of several Premier League clubs interested in Williams.

However, as per Fabrizio Romano via X (15 July), FC Barcelona are prepared to advance in talks for the forward.

And Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – can’t see the player ending up in North London.

“Williams had a fantastic Euros with Spain,” Wenham said.

“Therefore, I think after the performances we’ve seen from him he is probably beyond Spurs’ reach now.

“Barcelona are clearly very interested in signing him so I believe he will stay in Spain now.

“As a result, a transfer to Tottenham definitely looks to be off the table.”

Nico Williams to move to FC Barcelona instead of Tottenham?

Williams would be an incredible signing for Tottenham.

He was one of the players of the tournament at the Euros and signing him would be a huge statement of intent from Daniel Levy and Ange Postecoglou.

However, luring him to the club now looks to be extremely difficult.

He will be wanted by every top team around Europe and is likely to end up joining a club where he can play UEFA Champions League football.

As a result, despite their previous interest, it appears as if Spurs will need to move on to fresh transfer targets.
