Sam Lammers could have priced himself out of a move from Rangers to Utrecht after demanding a £23,000-a-week contract, according to the Daily Record.
The outlet reported on 18 July that the Eredivisie side are willing to match the Gers’ £2.7 million asking price for the 27-year-old.
However, it is understood that any chance of a permanent move have now collapsed with the Dutchman holding out for wages of £1.25m per year.
This would be three times more than Utrecht’s highest-paid player and they have moved on to other targets.
Sam Lammers set for Rangers stay
The Gers have been interested in moving the forward option on in the summer transfer window after a failed spell at Ibrox.
After signing from Atalanta, Lammers has struggled in Scotland which has seen him loaned out after just 31 appearances [FotMob].
It seems that the Light Blues are struggling to move on the Dutchman right now with demands on the club and players’ side causing problems.
They spent £3m on the versatile attacker just a year ago[Sky Sports, 16 June 2023] and look unlikely to recoup anything close to that.
This has only been made harder by him being forced into the Rangers Under 21’s side despite being 27 and having a senior career spanning eight years.
Now Philippe Clement may be forced into trying to get the best out of Lammers given how much has been spent on him.
It remains unclear whether a return to the Eredivisie may be on the cards or if an extended Ibrox stay is more likely.
In other Rangers news, Philippe Clement may have to look elsewhere in order to raise funds for new arrivals.
