Wenham speculates if Tottenham will move for PL star who 'Postecoglou would love to sign'

John Wenham has suggested Tottenham will soon decide on whether or not to move for Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher.

The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose claims the club will first need to assess the options they already have in their midfield.

As reported by Diario AS (21 July), Gallagher is desperate to join Atletico Madrid after speaking with England teammate Kieran Trippier about life in the Spanish capital.

However, Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes Ange Postecoglou will still be keen to bring the 24-year-old to North London.

“What is interesting is that he still hasn’t signed a new Chelsea contract,” Wenham said.

“In January he will be able to agree a pre-contract with an overseas club, perhaps Atletico Madrid.

“We’ve signed Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall, so whether or not Tottenham decide to move for Gallagher again depends on what level the club see those players at.

“Rodrigo Bentancur too, I am hoping he can get back to his pre-injury form.

“I think Gallagher is a good player who would improve us, and I am sure Postecoglou would love to sign him. However, we will have to wait and see what Spurs decide to do in the coming weeks.”

Spurs have been linked with Gallagher for quite some time now.

He was one of Chelsea’s best players last season under Mauricio Pochettino. However, it looks like he could be on his way out of Stamford Bridge.

The Blues would always be reluctant to sell a player to their London rivals, although if the money is right, they could be tempted considering Gallagher is into the final year of his contract.

However, if the player is considering a move to Spain, Tottenham will need to act fast and convince him to remain in the Premier League.
