West Ham handed 'huge' Mohammed Kudus boost

West Ham star Mohammed Kudus’ international struggles are ‘good news’ for the club as Ghana falter in their African Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Hammers striker Frank McAvnnie feels for the 24-year-old but admits Kudus’ expected stay at the club throughout the tournament could be a huge boost for the East London club as they chase European qualification.

Kudus and Ghana lost 2-0 to Sudan on Tuesday (October 15) leaving them winless from their opening four African Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Sitting in third with just two points from a possible 12, the four-time champions are in real danger of failing to qualify for the first time since 2004.

After scoring 18 goals and providing seven assists across all competition for the club last season, the winger is yet to get going this campaign.

Kudus scored what the club will be hoping is the first of many last time out in their 4-1 win over newly-promoted Ipswich Town.

“It’s bad for the boy, it’s not good for him but great for West Ham, it’s huge”, McAvennie told Football Insider.

“It’s in the middle of the season and we’re letting players go, it doesn’t make much sense to me but the club knew that he could be going away.

“It could be good for him because he’ll be sticking about and doing his bit for West Ham which can only get better.”
