What Guardiola said of Iwobi ahead of Man City’s clash with Fulham will excite Eguavoen pre-Libya

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has praised Alex Iwobi ahead of their Premier League clash with Fulham on Saturday, Soccernet.ng reports.

The City manager acknowledged the Nigerian winger’s impressive form as Fulham travel to the Etihad Stadium, fresh off an excellent start to the season.

Fulham, currently sixth in the Premier League, have collected 11 points from their first six games, recording three wins, two draws, and one defeat, which came against Manchester United in the opening round.

Iwobi has been instrumental in Fulham’s early success, contributing one goal and one assist in six appearances.

The Cottagers’ latest triumph came with a 1-0 win over Nottingham Forest, continuing their strong run of form.

Ahead of the match, Guardiola spoke highly of Fulham’s attacking threat, singling out Iwobi for special praise.

“Fulham have a lot of weapons and speed,” Guardiola noted. “I have never seen Iwobi in the form he is playing.”

With Iwobi hitting top form, Marco Silva’s men will be aiming to cause City problems on Matchday 7 of the 2024-25 Premier League season.

The Super Eagles star, who has made 259 Premier League appearances, boasts 23 goals and 30 assists to his name, and his current form will be crucial as Fulham look to build on their solid start to the season.

Iwobi’s form will delight Augustine Eguavoen as the interim Super Eagles coach plans to lead Nigeria against Libya this month.

The Super Eagles host the Mediterranean Knights on October 11 in Uyo and face the same opponents four days later in Benina in matchday three and four of the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Eguavoen attracted rave reviews as the Super Eagles defeated the Benin Republic and claimed a goalless draw with Rwanda in September.

The former international will look to count on the talents of Iwobi and others as the Super Eagles seek to book their tickets at Morocco 2025.
