When does the 2025 January transfer window open and close?

The January transfer window is nearly upon us and football clubs across the world will finally be able to bring in new recruits from other clubs, or indeed sell their players.

The 2024 summer transfer window was relatively low key compared to previous years, with only seven players moving for an initial £50million or more.

Furthermore, no player sales broke the £100million barrier last summer, with the most expensive transfer – Julian Alvarez to Atletico Madrid from Benfica – costing £82million including add-ons.

However, the 2025 January transfer window is shaping up to be an intriguing one, with plenty of world-class players set to be out of contract the following summer.

In addition, a fair few big clubs could do with some reinforcements. For instance, Manchester City could be looking for a Rodri replacement, while Tottenham are in desperate need of a centre-back.

As for Manchester United, they have a new manager at the helm, and Ruben Amorim could be eager to bring in some new recruits right away.
