'Why on earth?' - Journo tears into Clement for what he did after Rangers draw v Hearts

Hugh Keevins has torn into Rangers manager Philippe Clement for his comments about John Lundstram following the draw with Hearts.

The Light Blues got their Premiership campaign up and running with a disappointing 0-0 draw at Tynecastle on Saturday (3 August) as they showed very little quality in the final third.

Following the full-time whistle, Clement admitted that he felt his squad was missing Lundstram’s presence, to the frustration of Daily Record writer and Clyde 1 pundit Keevins who slammed the Belgian.

Speaking on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard on Saturday (3 August) he said: “Philippe Clement said things after the game at Tynecastle that the Rangers fans didn’t agree with.

“Why on earth he brings up John Lundtram’s name in conversation and says that Rangers missed him is a mystery to me because you let him go.

“After one game, to tell your players you’re not doing it, we really missed John Lundstram.”

Are Rangers close to any new signings in the transfer window?

Whether or not it was Clement’s decision to let Lundstram leave this summer is up for debate as the Gers boss had previously made it clear he was eager to keep the Englishman at Ibrox and tie him down to a new contract.

Either way, the manager shouldn’t be mentioning a player who left the club months ago when looking to address why the Light Blues were so far off of it at Tynecastle on Saturday.

While the summer rebuild hasn’t been quite as major as most fans had expected given Clement’s comments earlier last season, he has been backed particularly in midfield where Connor Barron has joined Mohammed Diomande.

Undoubtedly, both Clement and the supporters would like further high-profile additions to the squad before the window slams shut, but they simply have to make do with what they have at their disposal for now.

Hopefully, Rangers won’t continue to miss Lundstram when they begin their Champions League qualification campaign.
