Rangers midfielder Ianis Hagi may have confirmed his future at the Ibrox with a cryptic post on Instagram.
As reported by the Scottish Sun (4 August), the 25-year-old is set for a “rather sorry end” from the club after he posted a cryptic quote to his Instagram account following the Gers drew their opening match of the Scottish Premiership season 0-0 against Hearts.
Philippe Clement left Hagi out of the matchday squad for the SPFL opener following his omission from the Champions League squad list ahead of the qualifier against Dynamo Kyiv next week (6 August) and, the Romanian international made his feelings known on social media.
He said: “If I post where I’m at I left already”, Hagi has been linked with a move to Fiorentina as his time at the Ibrox draws to an end. (Digi Sport, 26 July)
Rangers set to part ways with Ianis Hagi
Hagi contributed seven goals and 11 assists in 33 SPFL appearances under Steven Gerrard in the 2021 title-winning campaign.
Since then, he has found himself on the fringes at the Ibrox and, spent last term on loan to Deportivo Alaves registering just two assists in 22 La Liga appearances.
Michael Beale did not see a place for the Romanian in his side and that thought seems to be echoed by Clement, who has opted to utilise Tom Lawrence behind Cyriel Dessers in pre-season and selected the Englishman to start against Hearts.
It is a shame to see such a promising talent pushed out the door at the Ibrox, and Hagi could have impacted the match on Saturday, even if that had to be from the bench.
The relationship between the player and the club seems to be broken beyond repair following his Instagram post and, a permanent move away from Rangers is the best and most likely outcome for both parties and should fetch a good fee for the club. (Morning Briefing, 30 July)
Hagi’s time at Rangers is coming to a bitter end but the Gers strategy has been clear all summer with the 2021 Young Player of the Season the latest victim to the Ibrox summer overhaul.
