'Worked his socks off': Ange Postecoglou blown away by £15m Tottenham player's work-rate vs Qarabag
He was brilliant! ????
Tottenham Hotspur got off to the perfect start in the Europa League with a 3-0 victory over Qarabag on Thursday night.
Well, it was almost the perfect start with Radu Dragusin’s red card a small blemish on what was otherwise a positive result for Ange Postecoglou.
But the scoreline may have flattered Tottenham with Qarabag letting the north London side off the hook on a number of occasions with squandered opportunities.
Tottenham’s Richarlison and Dominic Solanke both hailed Guglielmo Vicario for keeping a clean sheet in the game on Thursday night.
However, there was on player, in particular, who Postecoglou was keen to single out for some praise following the full-time whistle.

There were a number of changes made to the starting XI on Thursday night with the likes of Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall coming into the mix.
Postecoglou did also stick with some his regulars and he was rewarded for that with goals from Brennan Johnson, Pape Matar Sarr and Dominic Solanke.
The Australian was forced to make an early change following Dragusin’s sending off which saw Bergvall withdrawn from the midfield.
With the midfield being altered during the game, Postecoglou hailed Sarr for his efforts with Tottenham down to 10 men.
“Great again for guys like Brennan and Dom [Solanke] to score again, I thought they both contributed to that,” the Australian told the media.
“We got a goal from a set piece. Pape it’s his first full game and I thought he worked his socks off for the team.”
Ange Postecoglou is a big fan of Pape Matar Sarr
Since landing in north London, the Australian manager has put a lot of faith in the Senegal international despite his age.
Sarr has featured in all five of Tottenham’s league games this season but he has only started two of them and is yet to finish a full 90 minutes.
But that just goes to show the options which Postecoglou has in the middle as he continues to rotate his side in what’s going to be a busy season.
During pre-season, Postecoglou shared his admiration for the £15m Sarr as he again hailed the midfielder’s work ethic in the middle of the park.
“I thought Pape’s running is just unbelievable. He’s a benchmark for us in that midfield area,” he said.
