Arsenal have just signed Real Sociedad midfielder Mikel Merino and may yet get another through the door before transfer deadline day on Friday.
Mikel Arteta remains keen on signing an attacker and has been eyeing Sporting’s Viktor Gyokeres throughout the window.
Those links have since gone quiet but they could still make an 11th-hour bid in the final three days of the window.
With that said, Sky Sports journalist Kaveh Solhekol has provided the latest on a rumoured striking target.
Chelsea working on Ivan Toney deal
Arsenal have been linked to Brentford’s Ivan Toney this summer and talks were reportedly held with his representatives.
But, according to Solhekol, it’s Chelsea who are actively pursuing him ahead of deadline day.
“Chelsea’s deal for Ivan Toney will only happen if transfer fee and wages are at a reasonable level,” the Sky Sports journalist said.
“Chelsea are also working on deals for other targets.
“A deal for Victor Osimhen has not been ruled out but again the numbers involved would have to be at reasonable level.
“Toney has become a target because of his scoring record, his Premier League experience, his relatively low wages and the fact he has only one year left on his contract.
“Toney has an extremely lucrative offer from Al Ahli, which Chelsea are unable to get close to matching.
“Meanwhile, Romelu Lukaku is expected to have his medical at Napoli tomorrow.”
Ivan Toney price tag
Ivan Toney has just a year left on his contract at The Bees and is therefore available for a discounted price this summer.
It’s thought the England international could depart for around £30m, so Arsenal really should test the waters with an opening offer.
