Arsenal are making some big decisions in the final few days of the summer transfer window.
After completing the deals to sign David Raya and Riccardo Calafiori in July, the Gunners worked really hard on their other targets. Mikel Merino was announced as a new Arsenal player on Tuesday.
As for outgoings, Emile Smith Rowe has been sold, Fabio Vieira has been loaned out and Arsenal have given permission to Eddie Nketiah to have his Crystal Palace medical.
Now, they have made a decision on another player’s future after he was linked with a move away from the Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal change their mind about Jakub Kiwior’s future
Arsenal signed Jakub Kiwior from Spezia in January 2023.
The Pole was initially brought in as a backup to Gabriel Magalhaes in central defence, but most of his appearances at Arsenal have come at left-back.
Kiwior, hailed as ‘unbelievable’ by Ally McCoist during commentary on TNT Sports, has shown his quality in an Arsenal shirt in flashes over the last 18 months, but he hasn’t done enough to become the undisputed first choice.
That led to claims that Arsenal are ready to sell Kiwior for £25 million in this window, and the former Spezia man has been heavily linked with a move to a number of clubs.
Now, it looks like Arsenal have changed their mind.
Polish outlet Meczyki broke the news on Tuesday that Arsenal have not given the green light to Kiwior to leave the club in this window.
Di Marzio has backed that claim, as has Fabrizio Romano, who has revealed that Arsenal have informed Kiwior and his agents that he will remain at the Emirates this summer.
He tweeted: “Arsenal have informed Jakub Kiwior and his camp that he’s not for sale. Despite interest from Villarreal and Bologna on loan move, Arsenal want to keep Kiwior at the club.
“Decision made as @wlodar85 (Meczyki journalist Tomasz Włodarczyk) reported today.”
A look at Arsenal’s incredible options in defence
Arsenal maintained the best defence in the Premier League in the 2023/24 season.
The Gunners were absolutely outstanding at the back, and they are now stronger than ever in that department, which is great news.
Ahead of David Raya, Arsenal have Ben White, William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes who start almost every single game in the Premier League.
At left-back, their options include Oleksandr Zinchenko, Jurrien Timber, Takehiro Tomiyasu, Riccardo Calafiori, Kiwior and also Kieran Tierney, who is still at the club.
Timber, Tomiyasu, Calafiori and Kiwior can all play central defence as well, as can White.
