Kris Boyd couldn’t believe FCSB had an early goal disallowed in the Europa League as Rangers recorded a comfortable win on Thursday (24 October).

The Gers responded perfectly to the 1-0 loss against Kilmarnock in the Scottish Premiership last weekend with a resounding 4-0 European victory at Ibrox.

However, Boyd believes Rangers should have gone a goal down against FCSB and was stunned it was disallowed when speaking live on Sky Sports [24 October, 8:05pm], as the referee blew for a foul in the build-up after David Miculescu stole the ball off Jack Butland.

He said: “Wow. The FCSB players will be absolutely raging. If that was me now, I’d be absolutely fuming. Rangers have got away with one.”

Rangers survive early scare to record crucial European win

Philippe Clement can consider himself lucky his side avoided conceding an early goal in a must-win Europa League clash.

Only Butland knows what he was doing on the ball allowing Miculescu an opportunity to convert the ball into an empty net. He dallied far too long with possession knowing the immediate danger was present, and chose to take the risk anyway.

The 31-year-old will be the most relieved man in Ibrox as the goal was disallowed for a seemingly non-existent infringement to spare his blushes, before Tom Lawrence added insult to injury for the visitors by opening the scoring from the edge of the box only minutes later.

Vaclav Cerny doubled the advantage for Rangers just after the half-hour mark and Hamza Igamane put the game to bed in the dying embers, the side never looked back and strolled to a comprehensive victory despite the controversial circumstances.

Clement has been under increasingly mounting pressure in Glasgow this season and, had FCSB taken the lead at Ibrox and ground out a shock result, Butland may well have contributed to ending the Belgian’s tenure at the Gers in the not-too-distant future.

Fortunately for Clement, Butland, and Rangers, the decision was ruled in favour of the hosts. The boss has saved his job for now but two massive games are still to come over the next week, including a showdown with high-flying Aberdeen.

In other Rangers news, John Gilligan shares an admission as a ‘significant’ claim is made at the Gers.
