'Wow' - Richard Keys left incandescent with rage after what he saw happen with Everton

Richard Keys has been left raging after what he saw his beloved Everton side do in their first game of the season against Brighton.

The Toffees played host to the Seagulls at Goodison Park on 17 August and suffered an embarrassing 3-0 defeat.

To make matters worse, Ashley Young, who started the game at right-back, picked up a red card, seeing the hosts ending the game with ten men.

Writing in his blog on 19 August, Keys said: “What a start it was for Everton. It really couldn’t have been much worse. What worries me is not how bad it was – more that I can’t see how it gets better.

“But Everton? Wow. They looked so bad. They’ve got all the same problems as last season. Where are the goals going to come from? Where’s the energy? There’s no youth. No legs. Young’s sending off was an accident waiting to happen. He’s a terrific pro who’s had a wonderful career – but playing at full-back at 39?

“I’m genuinely worried for the Toffees. There’s so much **** still to come down the line off the field I don’t know where they turn for answers on it.”

Sean Dyche needs to demand more and get things back on track for Everton

Sean Dyche can turn Everton’s fortunes around and he needs to address the team’s defensive frailties, not just through tactical adjustments but also by integrating younger, more energetic players into the squad to inject pace and dynamism.

This could help in both defending and transitioning to attack more effectively.

The Englishman should continue to refine his system, ensuring that it not only provides defensive solidity but also allows for quicker, more incisive counter-attacks.

This could involve training the midfield trio to be more proactive in pressing and supporting the lone striker, thus creating better goal-scoring opportunities.

Moreover, Dyche’s man-management skills should be leveraged to boost morale and team cohesion, which has historically been a strong suit of his.

With the financial constraints, the Toffees boss might need to look for undervalued talents or loans that fit his system, focusing on players who can adapt quickly to the Premier League’s pace and contribute to both defensive and offensive phases.

In other Everton news, Alan Myers has shared how many players the club will be signing before the 30 August deadline.
