'Got better and better': Darren Bent says 'brilliant' Arsenal player has improved so much under Mikel Arteta

Arsenal got their Premier League campaign up and running with a 2-0 win against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Despite not being at their best, goals from Kai Havertz and Bukayo Saka either side of half-time got the job done for the home side.

Mikel Arteta’s side face a tricky away trip in their second Premier League encounter as they prepare to take on Aston Villa.

And Darren Bent showered high praise on Havertz ahead of Arsenal’s trip to Villa Park.

Havertz endured a difficult start at Arsenal after his £65m move from Chelsea last summer but quickly became a key player for Arteta at the business end of last season.

Bent believes the German international has developed leaps and bounds since joining the club and also praised his performances at Euro 2024.

“I think Kai Havertz proved a lot of people wrong last year,” Bent said on talkSPORT (4:55 PM, August 23rd).

“Yes, maybe his numbers are not up there with the likes of Haaland, but that’s not what he is about. For me, he got better and better as the season went along.

“I was quite impressed with him in the Euros as well for Germany, and now he has got the confidence for Mikel Arteta that he can play that number nine role, and also he can play in midfield.”

Havertz is now a key player for Arsenal

Gilberto Silva referred to Havertz as a ‘brilliant’ player for his exploits in Arsenal’s title run-in last season.

He scored 13 Premier League goals for the Gunners, which is a creditable tally considering his initial struggles.

Gary Neville feels Havertz’s style of play reminds him of Roberto Firmino, who led the line for Liverpool in their all-conquering team under Jurgen Klopp.

The 25-year-old has certainly nailed down a regular starting spot at Arsenal but will look to improve on his goal tally this season as the Gunners aim for the Premier League title.
