Brentford forward Fabio Carvalho has been urged to leave the Premier League club by his father in a since-deleted post on social media.

Having impressed at Fulham as a teenager, Carvalho moved to Liverpool in 2022 for a reported fee of £5 million.

However, the Portuguese star failed to nail down a regular berth in Jurgen Klopp’s side, spending time on loan at RB Leipzig and Hull City before joining Brentford this summer in a deal worth £27.5m.

Despite the Bees’ solid start to the campaign, Carvalho has failed to make a noticeable impression, starting just two league games so far this season.

The 22-year-old was an unused substitute when Thomas Frank’s side played out a goalless draw against Everton last weekend having gone down to ten men late in the first half.

But while the club looked to celebrate a hard-earned point on social media, Carvalho’s father chose to publicise his frustration at the lack of game time afforded to his son.

In a comment underneath a post on the club’s official Instagram page, which has now been deleted, Victor Carvalho wrote: ‘Son, you have to leave this club.’

The staggering post marks a noticeable shift in opinion from Carvalho’s father who was noted as a keen proponent of Fabio’s move to the London club just three months prior.

‘I’ve watched a lot of Brentford, especially when they played against teams in the top six: they always put in a fight and that’s exactly what you want to see,’ the forward said in August when he officially joined the club.

‘When I was on the bench for Liverpool for the away game two seasons ago [the 3-1 win], Brentford were all over us!

‘But I’ve been keeping an eye out for Brentford; my dad watched the Benfica [pre-season] game because he’s a massive Benfica supporter and said, ‘Look, Brentford have got a good team’.

Carvalho has scored two goals in all competitions since signing for Brentford, including a goal and assist in the Carabao Cup against Leyton Orient which earned plaudits from his boss Frank.

‘He’s taking steps in the right direction in the past five or six weeks,’ the Dane said at the time.

‘I was very pleased with what I saw from him; a great goal, a great assist. He’s growing into what I thought he would bring to us.’
