Dion Dublin has suggested Everton manager Sean Dyche would be a good option to become the next England manager.

Dublin appeared on BBC Sport’s Football Focus on Saturday (17 August) and commended his former teammate Dyche for his job at the Goodison Park helm last season in particular.

The Toffees finished in fifteenth last term, 14 points clear of the relegation places after two years of battling the drop in the league – an Abdoulaye Doucoure goal on the final day of the 2022/23 season restoring their Premier League status.

Dublin said about Dyche: “This is how far I’d go: I’d have him in the hat for the England job – 100 per cent.”

The England job recently became vacant after Gareth Southgate stepped down.

Will Sean Dyche leave Everton?

While Dyche is building an Everton side capable of finishing in a strong position in the Premier League this season, managing the England national team is a dream for all English managers.

It is an appointment that would make sense, too, as the defensive structure in which he sets up his side is reminiscent of Southgate’s system that reached two consecutive European Championship finals for England.

Everton are yet to discuss a new contract for their manager [Liverpool ECHO] amid the growing uncertainty surrounding the club, with the priority for owner Farhad Moshiri being the immediate sale of the club.

The Blues will need to tie down Dyche to a new deal sooner rather than later. He has been remarkable since his appointment in 2023, and given the current situation at the club, there will be few managers in football eager to enter the frame at Goodison Park should he leave.

For now, Everton fans will be hoping that their club is under new ownership in the next few weeks and then the priority should be to hand Dyche the new long-term deal he deserves and continue the progress made under his stewardship.

The England job would be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for Dyche, but the expectation would be immense following Southgate’s exploits. He is building towards something special at Goodison Park and once the uncertainty surrounding the owners is resolved, the future will be bright for his current side.
