Newcastle United are willing to pay Crystal Palace’s £70million asking price for centre-back Marc Guehi, sources have told Football Insider.

Guehi, 24, has told Palace he wants to leave for St James’ Park before Friday’s transfer deadline (30 August).

The England international has already agreed personal terms with Newcastle ahead of the move.

Nevertheless, it is believed the deal will go down to the wire with the Magpies yet to agree a fee and Palace still searching for replacements.

Joachim Andersen has already been sold to Fulham for a reported £30million, meaning Oliver Glasner’s first-choice partnership will be dismantled if Guehi also moves on.

Personal terms agreed – Guehi closes in on Newcastle move

Guehi has started and played 90 minutes in all three of Palace’s games so far in the 2024-25 campaign and has also worn the captain’s armband.

The Euro 2024 star’s contract at Palace runs until June 2026.

He missed a big chunk of last season through injury but boosted his value with a string of stellar performances for beaten finalists England in Germany during the off-season.

Newcastle are desperate to add defensive reinforcements before the deadline after lining up with Dan Burn and Emil Krafth at the heart of their defence against Bournemouth and Nottingham Forest.

The Magpies have picked up four points from their first two Premier League games of the new season.
