'A lot of noise': Jermain Defoe makes point about Arsenal after seeing Nott'm Forest beat Man United

A lot is being made about Arsenal scoring goals from set-pieces at the moment and it looks like Nottingham Forest could be following the trend.

Arsenal have made a habit of scoring goals from them under Mikel Arteta, with set-piece coach Nicolas Jover key to their success.

Of course, Arsenal manager Arteta wants his team to be known for more than just set-piece goals.

But it does seem the Gunners’ influence is going through the league a bit and after watching Nottingham Forest score from a corner against Man United, former England striker Jermain Defoe has suggested Arsenal’s influence is obvious.

Speaking for Premier League Productions about Arsenal and their set-pieces being a big influence, Defoe commented on how Forest had clearly got a similar mindset to winning games with them.

“There’s a lot of noise around Arsenal being so good at set pieces, so now it’s almost like teams are looking at it thinking, many games being won and lost with them,” Defoe said.

“It’s always been the case, but teams are now taking their time and making sure they capitalise on any dead ball situation.”

It seems we have come full circle a bit in terms of set-pieces being so crucial to teams. It was a huge tactic in the 80s and early 90s and now, among all the good football played, it’s as vital as ever.

Arsenal are the masters, as we know. But other clubs are also doing well in the Premier League on them this season.

It seems, then, that this trend will continue and with Forest in fifth, Arsenal and Villa doing well and Chelsea also competing, there’s a clear advantage to working on them in training.
