‘A possibility’: Liverpool could end up signing defender who’s faster than Mo Salah - journalist

Liverpool are yet to do any business this summer.

Indeed, we’re yet to see the first signing of the Arne Slot era at Anfield, but, there is some work going on behind the scenes.

The Reds appear to be very much focused on signing new defensive options, with a number of centre-backs recently linked.

However, according to Ben Jacobs, speaking on Playback, there’s another defensive position Liverpool have their eye on as the journalist named Bayer Leverkusen right-back, Jeremie Frimpong, as a player who could arrive.

Jeremie Frimpong to Liverpool is possible

Jacobs named Frimpong as a player Liverpool could bring in.

“Don’t be surprised if Liverpool enter the race for Leny Yoro if they get any encouragement that he doesn’t want Real Madrid. Frimpong could be a possibility as well, they like the player, but Leverkusen aren’t under any pressure to sell,” Jacobs said.

“You ask about Luis Diaz, Liverpool think he will stay in this window same with Mohamed Salah despite Saudi interest, but they’re still looking for a wide player to replace before a replacement is needed.”

Frimpong signing would be interesting

The signing of Jeremie Frimpong at Liverpool would be interesting for a number of reasons.

Frimpong is something completely different at right-back. He’s almost more of a winger in a lot of ways, and he loves driving into the box and getting shots away.

While Trent Alexander-Arnold was an attacking threat via his incredible passing and long-range shooting, Frimpong’s main weapon has always been his sheer pace.

Frimpong clocked in a faster top speed than Mohamed Salah last season according to The Speeds Database and the Bundesliga’s stats.

This arrival would represent a different approach for Liverpool in that right-back position, and who knows? Perhaps it could signal a permanent move into the midfield for Trent Alexander-Arnold under the new manager.

This is certainly a situation to keep an eye on.
