Aaron Ramsdale was quick to congratulate goalkeeper Jordan Pickford after the Everton man starred for England over the international break.
The 30-year-old was once again the Three Lions’ first-choice shot-stopper for the November fixtures, keeping clean sheets away to Greece and then at Wembley Stadium against the Republic of Ireland on Sunday 17 November.
Pickford celebrated his 73rd international cap with a 5-0 win before returning to Goodison Park at the end of the international break, mainly filling in as a bystander against the Irish.
He took to Instagram to share a post thanking Lee Carsley for his role as interim manager [17 November], with Ramsdale commenting: “JP,” with a clapping emoji.
Everton star Jordan Pickford stars away from Goodison Park
Pickford’s performances on the international stage are hardly surprising after so many years of service for both club and country, becoming one of England’s first names on the teamsheet.
His displays in recent seasons have translated over to his Everton duties, becoming a crucial member of Sean Dyche’s squad and definitely being one of the reasons for their Premier League survival last term.
With the Toffees currently only three points above the dreaded relegation zone, Dyche will be hoping that his goalkeeper returns to Goodison Park with many more clean sheets up his sleeve.
He will also be hoping that the injury to his most talented centre-back, Jarrad Branthwaite, is nothing serious after the 22-year-old left the England camp early to return to Merseyside.
The Toffees’ defence has not been the same, with James Tarkowski and Michael Keane steering the ship, and even Pickford has been unable to keep the goals out in the early stages of this season.
With upcoming matches against Brentford, Manchester United and Wolves coming up before a busy Christmas period, Dyche will be sweating to get as many points on the board before sinking into a relegation battle.
In other Everton news, Jack Harrison’s fate looks to be sealed as the Toffees target a £25million replacement.
