'Absolutely excellent': Ally McCoist wowed by Aston Villa player who won five duels in tonight's win over Bologna

Aston Villa have made it three wins out of three in the Champions League as they ran out 2-0 winners over Bologna on Tuesday night.

The Villans hit the ground running in their return to Europe’s premier club competition with a 3-0 win over Young Boys before a historic 1-0 victory over Bayern Munich.

And on Tuesday night, Aston Villa scored twice in the second half to get the better of Bologna at Villa Park.

John McGinn opened the scoring on 55 minutes with a free kick that evaded everyone, skipped off the turf and bounced into the far corner of the net.

Nine minutes later, Jhon Duran put the Villans out of reach with a neat flick from Morgan Rogers’ delivery to also find the far corner of Bologna’s goal.

Ally McCoist, covering the game on TNT Sports, loved what he saw from the 20-year-old forward.

Ally McCoist hails ‘pure goalscorer’s goal’ from Aston Villa star Jhon Duran

“That is a pure goalscorer’s goal from Jhon Duran, absolutely excellent,” McCoist said, as transcribed by BBC Sport.

” He does so well to get in front of the defender when the cross comes in, shows great strength to hold off Jhon Lucumi, and gets a strong enough touch on it to direct it into the corner.”

Sky journalist speculates whether Duran was injured

Duran was then subbed off shortly after his goal, with Ollie Watkins taking his place up front.

Sky Sports News journalist Patrick Rowe speculated whether his substitution was due to an injury.

He told the sports news outlet pitchside: “Jhon Duran is heading down the tunnel after coming off. Was an injury the reason he was replaced by Unai Emery?”
