'Absolutely Shocked' - Pundit issues multi-million Rangers transfer verdict, expects Jan move

Barry Ferguson expects the Rangers and Celtic-linked Lennon Miller to leave Motherwell in January.

The pundit told Go Radio that he’s unsure whether or not Gers will be able to afford the £4million fee it’s expected to prise the 18-year-old away from Fir Park.

He also expects teams in England and Italy willing to take a punt on the highly-rated Scottish midfielder.

Ferguson said on Go Radio, as quoted by the Daily Record (20 November): “The valuation of £4million is fair on Lennon Miller. I think he will get sold in January, but allowed to play with Motherwell until the end of the season. Who’s that to? I am going to hazard a guess that there will be a hell of a lot clubs in for him at that price. I think he has the potential to play at the highest level.

“He has been a standout, let’s be honest. He has gained so much experience in the short period of time in his professional career. It’s going to be a big decision. What I know is that he is a level-headed guy and he has a family behind him. They will make the right decision for him. Would I love to see him at Rangers? 100 per cent I would. Can Rangers afford him? I don’t know.”

When asked about him potentially moving to Celtic Park, Ferguson admitted: “I wouldn’t be too happy, of course. You want to see good young players go to your team – I would be absolutely shocked if both Celtic and Rangers aren’t interested. There will be teams down south. Teams in Italy – he could easily play for Celtic or Rangers.”

Lennon Miller joining Celtic would be a huge blow for Rangers

The potential transfer of Miller to Celtic instead would indeed be a significant setback for Gers, given his status as one of Scotland’s most promising young talents.

At only 18, Miller has already shown remarkable poise and skill, suggesting he could not only thrive at a club like Celtic but also significantly increase in value over the next few years.

The £4million fee currently discussed might seem high, but considering his potential, there’s an expectation that he could reach a valuation ten times that amount, around £40million, in the next three to four years.

Such a financial windfall would be a game-changer for any club, enabling substantial reinvestment in the squad or infrastructure.

If the Hoops sign the teenager, it not only strengthens their team but also positions them for a future transfer profit, making it a strategic move in the long-term financial planning of the club.

At the same time, it remains hard to see how Gers can afford to sign someone for that amount who may not immediately improve their playing eleven.

In other Rangers news, it has been confirmed that an Ibrox-linked player will be leaving his club at the right price.
