Dean Saunders narrowly avoided embarrassment after talking about Rangers’ 2-1 victory over St Mirren on Sunday (27 October).
With first-half strikes from Mohamed Diomande and Alexandros Gogic cancelling each other out, Vaclav Cerny stepped up to claim all three points for Philippe Clement’s side at Ibrox.
Saunders, however, clearly lost interest in the Scottish Premiership tie, having started a conversation about the Light Blues’ “draw” live on air with Jim White.
Speaking live via talkSPORT on Monday (28 October, 9:39am), Saunders said: “After their performance midweek, they drew 1-1, didn’t they?” to which Jim White replied: “No, they ended up winning 2-1.”
Saunders continued: “They must have scored right near the end then. I was watching it, wondering how they were going to get on. At least they got a result again.
White ended by saying: “They got a result again and you dug yourself out of that one beautifully.”
Rangers claim all three points versus St Mirren
The Light Blues cannot afford to slip up in the Scottish Premiership, with Celtic and Aberdeen leading the way after nine matches, and they managed to claim all three points at Ibrox.
Philippe Clement’s side will be truly tested when they travel to the Pittodrie Stadium on Wednesday 30 October to face the Dons, hoping to secure their seventh league win of the campaign.
This would edge them closer to the Scottish Premiership title race, which currently looks to be a two-horse race between the Hoops and the Dons.
Some Rangers games have been difficult to watch so far this season, so it would be understandable if Saunders admitted to losing focus, but with the winner coming in the 69th minute, he clearly wasn’t watching very closely anyway.
Cerny has been in brilliant form since facing criticism during the 4-1 defeat to Lyon, notching five goals and one assist since then and making a very quick turnaround.
In other Rangers news, Michael Stewart reacted to a controversial moment as new footage emerged v St Mirren, “I’m surprised…”.
