'I’m told...' - Ferguson shares what he's heard about Gilligan & Letham at Rangers

Barry Ferguson has heard John Gilligan and George Letham are adopting a hands-on approach at Rangers.

Gilligan has endured a tough time at Ibrox since assuming the role of interim chairman after John Bennett resigned from the club due to health problems.

Rangers have been slammed for the “disgraceful” situation the club finds themselves in at board level but the club may be about to turn a corner as Ferguson revealed in his column with the Daily Record [18 October], a more proactive approach will be used moving forward.

He wrote: “But John Gilligan has stepped into the role of a figurehead and I’m told he and George Letham have been taking a really hands on approach to guiding the club through the recent upheaval.

“That boots-on-the-ground leadership is something the club has been missing for a while now but Gilligan and Letham are taking a highly visible approach to running things behind the scenes while looking to make those key appointments in the boardroom.”

Rangers must get appointments right to catch Celtic

While the Gers are nowhere near the level required on the football pitch to mount a challenge to Celtic in the Scottish Premiership, more pressing matters must be dealt with first.

Rangers need to appoint a chairman, head of football operations, academy director, and chief executive officer in the coming weeks to instill some form of stability at Ibrox.

Ferguson previously revealed progress on the search for a CEO with “interesting candidates” emerging south of the border, to find themselves in desperate need of filling several key leadership positions within the club, two months into the new season is nothing short of a crisis.

The hands-on approach referenced by Ferguson is not a sign of progress but an acceptance of negligence, what exactly have Gilligan and Letham been doing while the Gers have descended into turmoil?

Rangers stand zero chance of mounting a challenge against Celtic with no clear direction at the club, the supporters must accept the fact, it will be years before a Gers side, managed by Philippe Clement or otherwise, will be in a position to compete in Scotland.

This is a pivotal period in the club’s history and the appointments made at Ibrox will define the club’s long-term future.

Gilligan and Letham cannot afford to make one wrong decision.

In other Rangers news, the Gers can bag a January windfall on Rory Wilson as offers emerge for the forward.
