Alan Brazil admits Everton have got to be careful despite believing they are too strong to be relegated from the Premier League.

The Toffees are preparing to welcome Brentford to Goodison on Saturday (23 November) as they go in search of their first win since mid-October against Ipswich Town.

Three points on Merseyside could send Sean Dyche’s side as high as 14th and potentially six points clear of the relegation zone despite issues earlier in the campaign.

After a difficult start to the season, Brazil told talkSPORT on 22 November (09:27am) that he believes Everton should stay up but is still wary of their current situation.

He said: “What do you make of Everton, Ray? Down in 16th. I said they were too gritty, too strong to go down but they’ve got to be a wee bit careful.”

His co-host Ray Parlour responded by saying: “Goodison Park, you know, they’ve got to make that a fortress again. I do believe that they won’t go down, I think they’ll have enough.”

Alan Brazil may be wrong about Everton this season

There is no doubt that the Toffees have had an up-and-down start to the season but in recent weeks, things have been looking up rather than down.

The defeat against Southampton was certainly a blow but Dyche’s side deserved to take more from St Mary’s after creating far more chances despite having less possession.

This was followed by a point and a clean sheet on the road against West Ham which isn’t the end of the world given the quality that they possess.

Ahead of a clash against the Bees, there are no guarantees up against the forward talents of Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa but the defensive solidity have been a key part of the Merseysiders game so far this season.

Seven clubs have conceded as many or more goals than the Toffees with Jordan Pickford, James Tarkowski and Michael Keane having positive starts to the season.

If this defensive output can be maintained and the likes of Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Beto can get on the scoresheet more regularly, safety could be achieved for Dyche’s men.

In other Everton news, Alan Myers has shared whether or not a court “issue” will impact the takeover.
