Alan Myers says he has not personally heard if Everton are in for Strasbourg midfielder Habib Diarra.
L’Equipe reported [30 July] that the Toffees are working behind the scenes to bring the 20-year-old to Goodison Park, with Sean Dyche’s side expected to make a transfer offer in the coming days.
Responding to a fan asking “L’Equipe wrote that we were interested in Habib Diarra. Is there any truth to this?”, the Sky Sports journalist took to social media to react to the question.
Replying via X on Thursday (1 August), Myers said: “Not that I’ve heard.”
Everton not interested in Habib Diarra transfer?
It would be a crying shame if no one on Merseyside was looking at the young centre-midfielder, who has impressed in Ligue 1 over the last two seasons.
Despite only making 69 first-team appearances for Strasbourg so far, the player has already attracted interest from multiple European clubs, and the Toffees need to take notice.
While Dyche has added Aston Villa’s Tim Iroegbunam to the midfield ranks, the squad will still be suffering from the void left by Amadou Onana’s move in the opposite direction.
Of course, Idrissa Gana Gueye and James Garner are high-quality players in the middle of the park, but if injury problems strike during the season, there is little backup available right now.
The young star has also now earned international recognition with Senegal after switching from the France youth teams in March earlier this year, and has a chance to become an important player the national team.
Given his defensive abilities, and even an eye for goal on occasions, he could add a lot of quality to the Everton midfield. However, they may have to act quickly with multiple teams on the player’s tail.
It is unknown how much Diarra could cost the Toffees this summer, but with the money from Onana’s exit, it should be an affordable transfer fee.
In other Everton news, Sky Sports shared an “outlandish” new Jarrad Branthwaite transfer update from Finch Farm.
