Alan Myers responds to Maurizio Sarri reports after Everton takeover announcement

Alan Myers has admitted he would take links between Maurizio Sarri and Everton with a “pinch of salt” after Goodison Park developments.

Reports emerged in Italy suggesting the prospective new Toffees owners view the Italian as a potential replacement for Sean Dyche having agreed a takeover deal with Farhad Moshiri [Corriere dello Sport, 25 September].

Sarri is one of a whole host of names to be linked with the move to Goodison Park in recent days but Sky Sports journalist Myers has suggested the Friedkin Group’s focus remains just on completing their takeover.

Writing on X on Wednesday (25 September) he said: “The focus is on the regulatory process, that’s what they’re concentrated on right now, there will be many, many stories.

“I’d take most if not all with a pinch of salt.”

Will Everton sack Sean Dyche amid Goodison Park takeover developments?

There was always going to be loads of speculation around Dyche’s position at Goodison Park once the takeover was finalised and while there are still a few hurdles to be jumped, this deal looks close to completion.

New owners are always going to have their own ideas about how to run a football club and the Friedkin Group are unlikely to be any different when they arrive at Everton in the coming months.

Reports have already suggested that the prospective new owners will be carrying out an audit of football operations at Goodison Park [i News, 23 September] and that will almost certainly see Dyche’s future brought into focus.

Whether or not the current Toffees boss will be sacked is another question, however. The Friedkins may well feel that they already have the right man in the post to ensure that they dodge the potential drop into the Championship.

But until the takeover is completed and a decision is made on Dyche’s future, there will be countless managers linked with a move to Merseyside.

In other Everton news, the Toffees have been told to make a Dyche exit decision after their draw with Leicester City
