Alan Myers shares if Jake O'Brien transfer leads to sale of Jarrad Branthwaite at Everton

Everton are unlikely to be signing Jake O’Brien as a replacement for Jarrad Branthwaite, according to Alan Myers.

However, O’Brien’s arrival does not mean that the English centre-back will be departing Goodison Park.

Myers wrote: “I doubt it.”

The departure of Ben Godfrey and the possible exit of Mason Holgate indeed create a need for defensive reinforcements and the Toffees’ interest in O’Brien could be to bolster their options in central defence rather than replace Branthwaite.

The Englishman has been a key player for the club and they’re holding out for a significant fee for him.

Despite interest from Manchester United, Everton’s stance on Branthwaite seems firm, as they see him as a valuable asset and are not under pressure to sell him.

O’Brien’s potential arrival would provide the club with more depth in central defence, especially if Holgate leaves the club.

This would allow Sean Dyche to have a strong rotation of players in the back line, ensuring they have cover for injuries and suspensions.

Furthermore, O’Brien’s signing could also be seen as a strategic move to prepare for the future as he’s got the best years of his career ahead of him.
