Alan Rough shares scenario that'd see fans force Clement out of Rangers

Alan Rough believes Philippe Clement could be one or two bad results away from fans fully turning on him and the Rangers board being forced to make a sack decision.

The Gers boss has come under fire for his comments made since losing 1-0 against Kilmarnock on Sunday (20 October) at Rugby Park.

The Belgian has asked for patience from supporters as he looks to build a project at Ibrox after a summer of change.

This didn’t wash well with Peter Martin on PLZ’s The Football Show (23 October) as he asked: “Is he delusional?”

Rough quickly responded saying: “No, everything he said, the board will buy into. Unfortunately, the supporters won’t and the supporters are the ones who will change everything.

“It’s ok the board saying ‘Yeah, we’ll hang on in for two or three years, we can see what you’re doing’ but if you aren’t winning games and a segment of the supporters turn against you, that’s when a board make the hasty decision.

“It seems to be festering in the background. He’s only one or two bad results away from the fans completely turning and when they do that then the board react.”

The Light Blues have had a positive spell in recent weeks but this all came crashing down with a defeat against Derek McInnes’ side at the weekend.

Marley Watkins’ goal was the difference on the day after a poor defensive showing which saw Robin Propper taken off.

The defeat was extremely frustrating for fans given there was a general lack of any silver linings to take away from Rugby Park.

This sparked some supporters to voice their frustrations to Clement but in response, the Belgian has once again voiced his desire for patience at Ibrox.

This is all well and good when it appears there is a positive direction for the club and the new signings are seemingly making a positive impact.

The problem for fans is that this doesn’t feel like it is the case right now, which could point towards a change in manager being a positive option.

It is over to Clement to prove that is not the case, starting with a victory over FCSB in the Europa League.
